Getting the Artist Role

Once your project is approved, request the Artist role in Discord. This gives you access to artist-specific channels and connects you with the broader community of creators on the platform. Reach out in #artist-general or contact your Art Blocks account manager to get verified.

Communication Guidelines

Art Blocks has guidelines to protect artists and collectors around project releases.

Before Launch

  • Do not publicly share specific launch details (price, edition size, exact timing) before receiving the green light from Art Blocks.
  • You may share work-in-progress visuals and talk about your project conceptually — just avoid details that could move markets before an orderly launch.
  • Art Blocks coordinates promotional timing across all platforms. Your account manager will tell you when and what you can share.

During and After Launch

  • Art Blocks' main accounts (@artblocks_io and @ArtBlocksEngine) will amplify launch communications at the team's discretion.
  • Flagship account amplification is reserved for content that aligns with Art Blocks' brand identity. Engine partners default to the @ArtBlocksEngine account.
  • Your team should not rely on the Art Blocks collector base as your primary audience — build your own community alongside the Art Blocks community.

Community Agreements

The Art Blocks community is intended to be a welcoming, inspiring, and beneficial place for everyone. Art Blocks asks all community members, both artists and collectors alike, to uphold the following principles:

  1. Be excellent to each other. Treat everyone in the community with dignity. This includes behavior when interacting with Art Blocks Staff and Moderators.
  2. No hate speech. Discrimination, slurs, or targeted harassment are not tolerated.
  3. No spam or self-promotion in channels where it's not appropriate.
  4. No NSFW (not safe for work) content. This includes text, images, and links with graphically disturbing content.
  5. Respect creative authorship. Do not copy or misrepresent others' work.
  6. Engage honestly. No market manipulation, wash trading, or deceptive practices.
  7. Protect privacy. Don't share others' personal information without consent.
  8. No financial advice. Don't present your opinions as investment recommendations.
  9. Follow platform rules. Comply with Art Blocks' terms of service and community guidelines.
  10. Beware of scams. Never send any ETH/tokens to anyone that reaches out to you by DM. Never share your private key or seed phrase. Do not click on unfamiliar links and always be cautious when interacting over DM.
  11. Report problems. If you see violations, report them to the moderation team rather than escalating publicly.
  12. Assume good faith. Approach disagreements with the assumption that others are acting in good faith.

Violations may result in removal from community channels. The Art Blocks team has final say on community conduct matters.

Sharing Your Work

Building an audience around your digital art practice is a long game, and one that artists in this community take seriously. Crypto markets are volatile and sales are never guaranteed, but artists who build a genuine, engaged following over time often find the experience more rewarding and their work more widely seen. Art Blocks has an enthusiastic community across several social media channels, and new artists consistently find that showing up authentically in that community goes a long way.

Art Blocks Channels

Art Blocks maintains an active presence across the following platforms. These are the spaces where the community gathers, and where awareness of new work naturally spreads.

  • X (Twitter) — the most active channel for announcements, project highlights, and community conversation. Releases are shared here, and the community regularly discusses and shares new work.
  • Instagram — Art Blocks shares project highlights and artist features on Instagram. It has become an increasingly important channel for reaching both crypto collectors and the broader art world.
  • Newsletter — Art Blocks sends a regular community email newsletter covering upcoming releases, artist spotlights, and news from across the generative art space.
  • The Journal — The Art Blocks Journal is home for editorials, artist interviews, project write-ups, and longer essays on generative art. Articles from the Journal are also shared across social channels.
  • Discord — The Art Blocks Discord server is the heart of the community where collectors, artists, and generative art enthusiasts connect, and where upcoming releases are announced.
  • YouTube — Art Blocks publishes video content including artist features and project documentation on YouTube.

Tips for Artists

Here are some practices artists in this community have found genuinely useful for building an audience and connecting with others around their work.

Get active on X (Twitter).

X is one of the primary social platforms for the generative art and crypto community. Sharing your creative process, posting works in progress, tagging @artblocks_io in posts related to your project, and engaging with other artists and collectors can open up conversations you may not find elsewhere.

Build a presence on Instagram.

Instagram has grown into an important channel for reaching both crypto-native collectors and a wider art audience. Sharing outputs, process shots, and project previews there can introduce your work to people who might never encounter it on X. Tagging @artblocks_io where relevant is always welcome.

Show up over time, not just release time.

Some of the most meaningful aspects of releasing on Art Blocks have nothing to do with sell-outs. Artists who share their process openly, engage honestly with other creators, and participate in conversations over time build real connections in this space. That kind of presence is its own reward, and it tends to make the whole experience of releasing more enjoyable.

Marfa Weekend

Art Blocks Marfa Weekend is an annual gathering in Marfa, Texas, bringing together artists, collectors, and the wider generative art community. For those who are able to make the trip, it is a genuinely special experience and a wonderful way to foster relationships with like-minded individuals. The conversations and connections that happen in Marfa often have a lasting impact on how artists feel about and within this community.

There is also the Art Blocks x OpenSea Artist Residency Program for those interested in a longer, more immersive experience. The residency places individual artists in Marfa for four to six weeks, with accommodations, a stipend for travel and art supplies, access to the Art Blocks Gallery, and dedicated time to develop a new generative project. Artists conclude the residency with a presentation to the local community and the option to release their work through Art Blocks Studio. Applications are open, and you can learn more and apply at artblocks.io/apply/residency.

We know Marfa is not accessible to everyone, and that is completely understandable. The Art Blocks community is a genuinely global one, and there are plenty of ways to build meaningful connections without being in the same room.

Think beyond social media.

Collaborating with a gallery or institution, writing about your work, building a project website, or making a video about your process all help people understand and connect with what you are making. The generative art audience is curious and genuinely appreciates context.

Charitable Giving

Art Blocks supports artists who want to direct a portion of their revenue to charitable causes. Options include:

Endaoment

Endaoment is a nonprofit community foundation that accepts crypto donations and allows donors to direct funds to any US-registered 501(c)(3) charity. You can set up a Donor-Advised Fund and use it as an additional payee in your project's payment configuration.

CryptoForCharity

CryptoForCharity facilitates crypto donations to charities worldwide. Similar to Endaoment, you can configure their wallet address as an additional payee in your project.

Manual Allocation

You may also simply route a portion of revenues to any wallet you control and donate manually through the channel of your choice. Be transparent with your community about how funds are directed.

To configure charitable giving:

  1. In the Creator Dashboard, go to Payments
  2. Add the charity's wallet address as an additional payee
  3. Set the percentage of your artist share to direct to that address

Consult with a tax advisor regarding the treatment of charitable crypto donations in your jurisdiction.
